Your New England Road Trip Starts Here

Whether you’re flying into Boston for a weekend on Cape Cod, landing in Portland for a week along the Maine coast, or touching down in Bangor on your way to Acadia, renting a vehicle shouldn’t be the complicated part of your vacation.

At Berg + Bay, we’ve built our rental experience around making that part as simple as possible: modern vehicles, detailed instructions, convenient airport pickups, responsive communication, and a local team that knows New England.

Here are answers to some of the questions we hear most often from our guests.

Where can I pick up a Berg + Bay vehicle?

Our fleet serves travelers throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts, including major airports and popular destinations from Boston to Bar Harbor.

Depending on the vehicle and reservation, pickups may be available at Boston Logan, Portland International Jetport, Bangor International Airport, Portsmouth/Pease, Bar Harbor/Hancock County, and other locations throughout the region.

Don’t see the location you need? Ask us. One of the advantages of working with a local operator is that sometimes we can accommodate a trip that doesn’t fit neatly into a dropdown menu.

How does airport pickup work?

Most Berg + Bay airport pickups are designed to be contactless.

Before your trip, we’ll send general information about what to expect. Once your vehicle is parked and ready, you’ll receive detailed, step-by-step instructions explaining exactly where it is and how to get there.

Depending on the vehicle, we can remotely unlock it for you, with the key waiting inside. No rental counter. No shuttle to an off-airport rental facility. No standing in line after a long flight.

Grab your luggage, find your vehicle, and start your vacation.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Flights get delayed. It’s part of traveling, and we plan our operation accordingly.

Because many of our pickups are contactless, a delayed arrival often doesn’t require coordinating a new meeting time with us. If something changes significantly, simply send us a message.

We monitor our reservations closely and will do everything reasonably possible to keep your arrival easy.

Do I have to pay for airport parking?

It depends on the airport.

Some New England airports charge parking fees for peer-to-peer rental vehicles, while others have dedicated arrangements. When a guest is responsible for a pickup parking fee, we explain that in the vehicle listing and pickup instructions.

Our general philosophy is simple: no surprises. We’ll tell you what to expect before you arrive.

Can I pick up in one city and return somewhere else?

Sometimes, yes—and this is one of our favorite things to help with.

New England road trips don’t always make sense as a circle.

Maybe you’re flying into Boston, exploring Portland and Acadia, and flying home from Bangor. Or perhaps you’re starting in Maine and finishing your vacation in Boston.

When logistics and vehicle availability allow, Berg + Bay can accommodate one-way rentals between select locations throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

Because booking platforms don’t always handle one-way trips elegantly, contact us before booking and we’ll help determine what’s possible.

What happens if I can’t find the vehicle?

Call or message us.

Our pickup instructions are intentionally detailed, and we often include photos, landmarks, parking rows, or location pins. But airports can be confusing—especially after a long travel day.

You’re dealing with an actual local team, not trying to navigate an automated customer-service maze.

What kind of vehicles does Berg + Bay offer?

We focus on vehicles that complement the New England experience.

Think Jeep Wranglers with retractable roofs for Acadia, BMW convertibles for the coast, premium SUVs for longer road trips, and spacious family vehicles for vacations with kids and luggage.

We want the vehicle to be more than transportation. It should fit the trip you’re taking.

Are your vehicles inspected before each trip?

Every vehicle is cleaned and checked between rentals, and its condition is documented.

We encourage guests to take their own walk-around photos at pickup as well. If a vehicle has existing cosmetic damage, we’ll identify and document it so you know what’s already there.

And because vehicles are vehicles, occasionally something needs attention. If an issue arises, we communicate it rather than hoping you won’t notice.

What if something isn’t right with my vehicle?

Tell us.

Travel rarely goes perfectly, and neither does running a fleet of vehicles. What matters to us is how we respond when something doesn’t go according to plan.

If something isn’t right, send us a message. If we can solve it, we will. If we need to find another solution, we’ll work with you.

We’d much rather hear from you during the trip when we have an opportunity to help than learn afterward that something affected your vacation.

Can I take the Jeep roof down?

Please do.

All of our Wranglers feature one-touch retractable roofs, meaning you can go from enclosed to open-air driving without removing and storing traditional Jeep roof panels.

Few things beat driving through Acadia or along the Maine coast with the roof open and the ocean air coming in.

We even curate road-trip playlists for exactly that occasion.

Do you offer child seats and boosters?

Yes. Child seats and boosters are available with select vehicles and reservations.

We intentionally try to keep these reasonably priced because we know how quickly the extras can add up when traveling as a family.

For safety, we generally leave installation to parents or guardians so the seat can be installed and adjusted appropriately for their child.

How do tolls work?

All of our vehicles are registered with regional toll systems or equipped with E-ZPass.

Use the toll roads you need during your trip. After the toll agency processes the charges, applicable tolls are invoiced through the rental platform, generally after the trip has ended.

We charge the actual toll amount, not a Berg + Bay convenience markup.

What fuel should I use?

Fuel requirements vary by vehicle.

Some of our premium vehicles require premium or mid-grade fuel, while others use regular gasoline. If your vehicle has a specific fuel requirement, we’ll clearly communicate that to you.

For vehicles requiring premium fuel, we may ask you to leave the fuel receipt in the vehicle or send us a photo through your trip messages.

Do I need to wash the vehicle before returning it?

No.

You rented a vehicle to enjoy your vacation, not to spend your last morning searching for a car wash.

Normal vacation use is expected. We professionally prepare vehicles between reservations. We simply ask guests to be considerate of the vehicle and address unusual spills or messes when practical—especially when traveling with children.

What if I return later than planned?

Communicate with us as early as possible.

Sometimes a later return is completely workable. Other times, another family may be arriving shortly after you and we’re working within a tight turnover window.

If we have flexibility, we’re happy to use it. If the vehicle has another reservation, we’ll let you know.

Can I extend my trip?

If the vehicle is available, absolutely.

Trip extensions generally need to be requested and approved through the booking platform. Message us first if you’re considering staying another day, and we’ll help determine what’s available.

Maine has convinced plenty of people to stay longer than planned.

Do you offer discounts for repeat guests?

We love seeing familiar names come back.

If you’ve rented with Berg + Bay before and are planning another New England trip, reach out before booking. Depending on the vehicle, dates, and platform options available at the time, we may be able to offer returning-guest pricing.

Why rent with Berg + Bay instead of a traditional rental company?

Because we’re trying to offer something different.

We don’t want your experience to feel like reservation number → counter → keys → car → return.

We want to know where you’re headed. We want your Jeep waiting when you land. We want to tell you how to find it without wandering around an airport garage. We want to know when your flight gets delayed. And if you’re heading to Acadia for the first time, we’re genuinely excited for you.

We’re a local New England business, and many of the places you’re coming here to experience are the same places we love ourselves.

The goal isn’t simply to hand you a vehicle.

It’s to make the vehicle part of a great trip.

Welcome to New England.

From a convertible down the Maine coast to a Wrangler through Acadia, a family SUV headed for the mountains, or a one-way adventure from Boston to Bar Harbor, we’re here to make getting there easy.

Bring your itinerary—or don’t.

We’ll provide the wheels.
